The show, like The Magic Sauerkraut, is inspired by Leonard Bernstein's musical omnibuses, written to raise awareness of classical music among young Americans. Therefore, in this case too, the audience is expected to be continuously involved with "experiments" on the topics covered.
The ensemble is composed of a seven-piece ensemble: two actor-singers, an actor/presenter, and two extras. The show "Music Match" explores the differences, but also the matches, the similarities, between Opera and Pop Music. The two contestants, played by Fabiana Polli (mezzo-soprano for opera) and Raffaele Prestinenzi (singer for pop music), compete in this "match" hosted by host Julian Sgherla, starting with the stereotypes of both genres (for opera, the pretentious and snobbish singer performing Bellini's "Casta Diva" and for pop music, the handsome but "empty" singer singing Mr. Rain's "Supereroi"), before going on to discuss vocals, the use or not of a microphone, the composition of the accompanying ensemble in both musical genres, acting, and the themes of arias and songs. The audience is invited to both vote on the performances and actively participate by going on stage to perform a play based on the music. Adding to the fun is the presence of two extras, one as the opera diva's bodyguard and the other as a die-hard fan of the pop star, both portrayed in caricatures.
