As part of the ALGY DISCOVERING KARST STONE project, funded by the Book and Reading Center and promoted by the Municipality of Duino Aurisina, Sunday morning will be dedicated to poetry and the discovery of Aurisina stone, with a walk and a unique performance in homage to Igo Gruden, Srečko Kosovel, and Umberto Saba, authors whose verses have captured the soul of the Karst and these lands of ours.
The meeting will begin by crossing the Karst landscape near Aurisina, with a guided tour led by Estplore nature guides, which will take in the marble basins and then into one of the area's historic workshops , that of the Cortese brothers . We'll hear about their experience, gained first in the quarry and then in the workshop, and we'll observe historic equipment and modern machinery up close to discover the lesser-known aspects of this fascinating craft linked to Karst stone.
And then we will encounter poetry : that of Igo Gruden, Srečko Kosovel, and Umberto Saba, which we will recognize in a bilingual dialogue thanks to the artistic performance produced by La Contrada – Teatro Stabile di Trieste with actors Elena Husu, Enza De Rose, Nikla Petruška Panizon, and Valentino Pagliei, and the artistic interventions of the ballet company directed by Marjetka Marković Kosovac, the Igo Gruden Women's Youth Choir, and the Vihar Vocal Group directed by Mirko Ferlan.
Throughout the morning we will have approached “ this strip of stony land ” (S. Kosovel, Karst Song) through the words, voices and movements of some of its souls.
