“Everything we touch or do makes sound: the circus props, the stage, and ourselves.”
The concert begins: pieces of pipe fly into a double bass and a cello. The music progresses through Rossini, Bach, Beethoven, Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones, and Louis Armstrong.
Then she arrives: a modern heroine, who disrupts all harmony. In every teenager's imagination, there's the need to do something heroic, something special, something outside of the ordinary, in order to become an adult.
The circus fuels the trio's madness in counterpoint with claves that become saxophones and sonorous diabolical instruments. A crescendo of three-part polyphonic songs, dances, and feats of courage, both musical and circus-like, ensues, leading to a final ritual marking the passage from adolescence to adulthood. The pizzicato of the musical clown reveals the souls of the three characters, who, with a universal language accessible to all, meet and clash in the magical game of life.
