Why "Closed Fists "? The title harks back to a 1966 song by the Italian band Ribelli, a generational manifesto and a prophecy of an approaching time of protest. But "closed fists" also symbolizes the anger and dissatisfaction of Trieste, a city facing decline while the echoes of the economic boom are still being felt throughout the rest of Italy. In a decline of both the economy and prospects, industrial Trieste can no longer withstand competition: its port suffers from delays in necessary infrastructure, its economy now relies solely on border trade and the growth of public employment. The crisis of the San Marco shipyard, kept afloat to avoid a social uprising, symbolizes the plight of the entire city. The story unfolds between October 4 and 9, 1966.
